Sam teaches yoga practices for joyful living. She uses positive spirit and affirming messages to support journeys of growth and change. Her aim is to follow joy, be inclusive, and encourage others to do the same.
Sam specializes in yoga nidra, meditation, mala and hatha yoga. As a teacher she is playful encouraging, and invites other into acceptance and joy In all of her offerings you can expect a welcoming and inspiring space to dive inward and experience changes that make a positive difference in your life.
Sam has been practicing yoga since 1997 and teaching since 2006. She is an E-RYT 500 and YACEP (Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider) and has journeyed to India six time to participate in teacher training and wisdom immersion experiences. Yoga is a thread that runs through every area of her life, though it is not her livelihood. Sam is dedicated to public service. She has worked for over twenty years in organizational development and diversity, equity, and inclusion positions within human service and higher education. Her commitment to equity is evident in the way she approaches yoga. She has a special interest in providing yoga that is inclusive, accessible, and welcoming through awareness of intercultural communication, power and privilege, and other critical components of holding space of diverse groups. She is certified in trauma-informed teaching through Yoga Behind Bars. This interest in equity led to collaboration with the DAYA Foundation, Portland's only non-profit yoga studio focused on trauma-informed brain-sensitive teaching and social justice, at which she is a member of the training team.
In her leisure time Sam sits at coffee shops, plays outside, trains for swimming and race-walking competitions, share laughs with her husband and their three parrots, and volunteers with Fearless Beauty and Yoga Behind Bars.
