Debra started running and exercising in college to save her sanity. Her roommates endorsed this decision by subtly dropping her running shoes next to her during “stressful” moments. Exercise became a part of her life and she eventually obtained a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology in order to scientifically understand the body’s response to exercise. She worked in Research and Corporate Wellness until she moved to Washington in 1996. With a 2-year-old, a newborn and a husband that travelled and worked long hours, she made the logical decision to work nights and weekends at a winery. Exercise continued to be a stable force in her life until one day, due to health reasons, she couldn’t continue with her regular exercise routine. The dark, warm, peaceful room at the gym with the calming voice of the instructor beckoned to her. That was her first yoga class and the rest is history. She recently worked in nutrition and weight management and as an exercise specialist at a physical therapy clinic. She obtained her RYT 200 teaching certificate and is now fascinated with learning and experiencing the effects of yoga on the mind, body and spirit.
